Limerick 'miles' ahead of Deise insists Davy as mind games begin

LIMERICK effectively threw down the gauntlet to Waterford in their championship dress rehearsal at the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday and announced themselves as wannabe contenders for a Munster title this year.

That was the sub-text of a performance and result in which Limerick, reduced to 14 men when skipper Brian Geary was red-carded after 47 minutes, went on to win by 2-14 to 1-13.

Yes, yes, I know -- it's 'only' the League, and still early in the year, and as Limerick manager Justin McCarthy said afterwards, "the intensity of a championship game wouldn't be there".

True enough, but with one round of League games to go, McCarthy has shown enough to suggest that he and his Limerick players won't turn up with an inferiority complex on June 14 when they play Waterford in Thurles in the Munster championship semi-final.
